We know it’s difficult. We understand that you might be getting a little impatient while staying at home all these days. You miss the sun shining through the leaves, fresh air caressing your face, sand in your shoes; you must be missing your friends – hugging them tightly and friendly conversations over dinner, you miss the hustle and bustle.
With all the things that are happening around the globe, it is hard to keep your spirits uplifted; at any moment you feel like you will lose all your sanity.
During these uncertain times, what matters the most is your mental well-being. We are on a ship where only hope and faith will sail through and patience of course. This is the time to be optimistic and to believe in yourself; this is the time to trust your dreams. While you are trying your hardest to be productive, juggling work from home with all the household chores, let us not forget to just breathe. Let us not forget our ‘me time’. In order to keep your sanity alive, there are some things you must avoid while staying at home during this lockdown and these are crucial for your mental health and there are some things you must practice in order to achieve your lockdown zen.
Stop Scrolling the News every Few Minutes: Yes! It is important to stay updated but let it not become an obsession. We understand how easy it is to just scroll through Twitter and to get updates from all over the world but it won’t do you any good. Select a time to keep yourself updated with whatever’s happening and stick to it. No obsessively scrolling through, okay?
Don’t Lock Your Feelings Away, Instead, Talk it Out: It is often difficult to talk about how we feel especially for introverted people but with the current scenario, please do not keep your emotions bottled up – talk it out. Talk to your friends and family or mental health professionals about how you are coping with the current situation. It is not a sign of weakness, being aware of one’s emotions is empowering.
Don’t Pressurize Yourself Into Being Super Productive: This is a global pandemic that we are going through, this is not your sabbatical. Hence, stop being pressurized by “influencers” who are telling you to do seven things at the same time. Do what comforts you during this time instead of focusing on being uber-productive.
Stop Worrying About Financial Matters: This one is easier said than done. At this point in time your priority should be your mental and physical well being. Your friends and family are safe, your loved ones are aware of your affection- that’s all that matters. All the other things will be okay but it will take some time and you have to be patient for that.
Pause, Relax, Breathe: We know how this lockdown can get overwhelming at times. You’re locked up in your own home, captive of your own mind but don’t let your thoughts overpower you. Have faith, be patient, open the window and take a deep breath – We are all in this together and we will get through this.
Don’t Get Into Bad Habits: You know what they say, it takes only 21 days to make it a habit. Hence, you want to avoid doing certain things while staying at home all these days. Follow a routine in order to wake up on time every day because we all know how the old saying goes – Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise – even during a lockdown.
Don’t Become Irritated or Hangry: It is easy to have food on our minds when we have practically nothing going on but we can avoid being hangry by thinking about other things like writing a Haiku, maybe? Be a little more loving towards your family, after all, we’re all in this together.
Avoid Vices: Oooh! This is a tough one but we know that you can do it. Vices are best to be avoided during lockdown because then they might become a habit and that is not what we want, right? Excessive drinking and smoking are a big no, no!
