September 9, 2020

Some unforeseen circumstances and an unprecedented lockdown situation, 2020 has been a wild ride for people all over the world. We’re spending all our time at home plus long working hours are making us stressed out. Many of us are on the brink of experiencing burn out. What are some ways to maintain this balance? Can we achieve symmetry while keeping ourselves sane? Here are 5 Tips to Attain Work-Life Balance in 2020 – one of the most challenging years in human history.

No Stress

Set boundaries and work hours: Although it may seem challenging, the work from home situation in 2020 is unavoidable. One way to balance it out is to set boundaries and work hours where you can solely dedicate your time and energy to complete one task at a time. Do not burden yourself and try to do all things at once; you’re only human so take your time and check those boxes one by one.

Accept that the perfect work-life balance doesn’t exist: At the end of the day, it all comes down to priorities. At times your work will demand the better of you and at times your family, you need to know when to prioritize what. Can you skip the social meeting with your colleagues for the virtual teacher-guardian session for your child? If yes, do that. Alternatively, you can skip a virtual family get-together to attend a very important marketing meeting. It’s all about prioritizing!

Flourish your individuality: You work to earn a living; it pays your bills, but it is not who you are. You’re so much more than that as an individual. Make sure to explore yourself, spend time with yourself. Figure out what you genuinely like to do besides your usual work thing; try out new hobbies like baking, reading, writing poetry or painting. Don’t forget your individual self in tremendous work pressure.

Take care of your health: Your health is your wealth, especially during these trying times. Whether it’s mental or physical, do not ever take your health for granted; it is one asset that you cannot afford to lose. Exercise, do yoga, unwind and meditate – do whatever you need to do to feel at peace with yourself. Eat clean and healthy, say yes to homemade, organic food. These small habits make a huge difference in the long run. Don’t always skip meals to prioritize work or attend meetings—schedule meetings at your convenience as much as possible. Don’t be hesitant to call in sick. Remember prioritizing your health makes you a better and happier employee and you’ll be more productive.

Be supportive of each other: We are all going through something or the other, everyone is battling their own battles. If you’re lucky enough to have a job in 2020, you’re doing better than most people. Whether it’s your colleagues, friends or family members, be supportive of each other; understand their needs. This balance isn’t always easy, but being patient and understanding will never go out of fashion. If you have a team under you, you have to understand all the members’ current situation and manage them accordingly. Spread positive vibes and be kind, going through 2020 is a difficult task, but with each other’s support, things become more doable.
